Clean Motion has started the development of a self driving and autonomous delivery version of Zbee.
What is Zbee?
Zbee, one of the world’s most sustainable vehicles through its design, energy efficiency and light weight body, it has great potential to solve the problems of both congestion and air-pollution in cities. Based on the Zbee technology, we will continue to develop a version that is autonomous and optimized for sustainable deliveries. The strategy comes from utilizing the potential that Zbee has and make it fit-for-purpose for different customers and automation systems, the focus will be on energy efficiency, low cost and multifunctional design.
“Since Zbee is designed to be a sustainable urban vehicle, it is natural to continue to build and automate it, instead of starting from scratch with heavy vehicles that do not belong in cities,” says Christoffer Sveder, Commercial Director at Clean Motion.
Autonomous delivery vehicles
The trend of increased urban deliveries, which usually occurs with large fossil-fueled vans, is increasing at a rapid pace, without effective measures this will create enormous challenges for our transport system.
Home deliveries are staff-intensive, which makes it difficult to become profitable with few incentives to switch vehicle types to more sustainable alternatives. By using customized ADV’s (Autonomus Delivery Vehicle’s), deliveries could result in better service, timely deliveries, lower costs and less emissions.
The GLAD project
In the project we will be working with Aptiv, Combitech, Halmstad University and RISE (Research Institutes of Sweden). Together we have been granted project funding within the framework of the Swedish Transport Administration’s R&D portfolio Strategic Initiative, the GLAD project; “Goods delivery under the Last mile with Autonomous Driving vehicles(ADVs).”
“The Swedish Transport Administration wants to have a good overview and increase its knowledge of what is required of the infrastructure when using self-driving vehicles and to ensure that adaptations are made in a way that promotes road safety, reduces environmental impact and increases the capacity of the road network.”, says Hamid Zarghampour, Chief Strategist at the Swedish Transport Administration.
The GLAD project is a holistic project, that will focus on autonomous delivery from a technological and human-machine interaction perspective. Together we will investigate the business models and potential application areas as well as how these are perceived by society. The project started on June the 3:e and continue for two years.
